Ukraine’s President, wrapped up a day of high-level talks in London as concerns grow on the continent about pressure from Washington on Kyiv to accept a peace deal with Moscow.

The three leaders appear to have agreed to step up work on long-term security guarantees for Kyiv-though, as has been the case for several weeks, no concrete plans have yet emerged.

Leonid Litra, Senior Research Fellow at the New Europe Center, Visiting Fellow at the ECFR, notes in his commentary to Greek media ΒIΜΑ that while the London talks were an important step in European coordination, major risks remain: “The US puts more pressure on the victim country than the aggressor. President Trump is pressuring Ukraine to make concessions instead of pressuring Russia. That’s the biggest problem”.

According to Leonid Litra, the American plan contains several problematic elements:

Territorial concessions in Donbas are unconstitutional and unacceptable for Ukraine

Neutrality and restrictions on Ukraine’s armed forces are incompatible with sovereignty

Security guarantees still remain unclear.
