New Europe Club

On September 2, the New Europe Center hosted a meeting of the New Europe Club on the topic “The United Kingdom’s Strategic Role in the Coalition of the Willing”.

In an informal setting, participants discussed a wide range of issues, including the effectiveness of the Coalition of the Willing to date, London’s perspective on security guarantees for Ukraine, the first interim results of the 100 Year Partnership, and the role of the United Kingdom in maintaining transatlantic unity and fostering dialogue between Europe and the United States.

The participants were welcomed by Sergiy Solodkyy, Director of the New Europe Center. «The United Kingdom is one of the most decisive countries that has consistently supported Ukraine. It has always stood out for its courage and leadership among Western nations – whether in supporting Ukraine’s armed forces, imposing sanctions against Russia, or backing Ukraine’s NATO membership. It is no surprise that London belongs to the core of the Coalition of the Willing. It is symbolic that we meet at a time of active negotiations on security guarantees for Ukraine. In its support for Ukraine, the United Kingdom has played many roles: sometimes as mediator, sometimes as advisor, often as an active participant — but London has always acted as a leader, never a passive bystander», – emphasized during the opening of the event by the Director of the New Europe Center, Sergiy Solodkyy.

The distinguished guest speaker of the event was Jonathan Marshall, Political Counsellor of the British Embassy Kyiv.

The New Europe Club is a unique format for discussing pressing issues between representatives of Ukraine and European countries.

This event is funded by the UK government as part of the “Mutual Transformative Power: changing Ukraine through cooperation with wider Europe” project, implemented by the New Europe Center. The views expressed during the event are those of the participants and may not coincide with the official position of the UK government.
