“Today the main guarantee of British support for Ukraine is not Johnson, Sunak or Cameron, but the voters of the United Kingdom. British politicians – even with no interest in our part of the world – are forced to consider the opinions of their own citizens. The public demand for large-scale support for Ukraine is important”
Sergiy Solodkyy, First Deputy of the New Europe Center, in an analytical commentary for TSN.ua explains the peculiarities of Ukrainian-British relations.
“Therefore, for the first time in the history of Ukrainian-British relations, we can say that a change of government, the name of the Prime Minister, will not affect active cooperation. British politicians, diplomats, journalists, ordinary citizens – all equally believe in the need to support Ukraine”, Sergiy Solodkyy said .
According to the expert, the latest survey in the UK shows that 57% of Britons have a positive opinion about Ukraine (out of 195 countries mentioned in the study, Ukraine is in 23rd place in the ranking of the most popular countries). For comparison: the United States are in 45th place, India is in 70th. The results are here: https://cutt.ly/NetCAayu
“British diplomacy has a long tradition, its intellectual resource is undeniable. However, it is also undeniable that the key guarantor of support for Ukraine remains precisely the citizens of Britain, whose opinion is forced to take into account by the politicians there”, Sergiy Solodkyy summed up .
