“Under the deal, the US and Ukraine will cooperatively develop Ukrainian mineral resources: they will jointly establish an investment fund, in which Kyiv will be donating 50% of revenues from the extraction of mineral resources. Further, the money from this fund will be invested into reconstruction of Ukraine.”
Marianna Fakhurdinova, Associate Fellow at the New Europe Center, stated in the podcast BBC Newsday.
So, from economic perspective Ukraine will get investments into the extraction of Ukrainian resources by American companies, and then will get some investments into its reconstruction.
However, it remains unclear how much of those resources Ukraine really possesses, because there have been no significant research and drills made before (because of the lack of investments). Therefore, there is no clear understanding yet how much profit will both parties potentially make.
