North Korea vs. Ukraine: Putin Is Already Indebted to Kim Jong Un

“The potential deployment of North Korean troops could become another serious challenge for Ukraine in its war against Russia. In this context, it’s essential to assess North Korea’s capabilities and weaknesses realistically, as isolation has fostered myths and stereotypes. Ukrainian media sometimes overestimate or, conversely, downplay Pyongyang’s potential — both distort perception and open the door to manipulation.”

Nataliya Butyrska, Associate Senior Fellow at the New Europe Center, explores North Korea’s de facto entry into the war on the pages of Mirror of the Week. She reflects on the strengthening of the strategic partnership — essentially a military alliance — between Moscow and Pyongyang, involving not only weapons supplies but also the possible deployment of North Korean soldiers to the battlefield.
