“Do the U.S. still fail to understand that visits to Kyiv by high-ranking representatives of the U.S. Administration during a genocidal war no longer hold the intrinsic value they once had in peaceful—and not always smooth—times?”
Alyona Getmanchuk, Director of the New Europe Center, shared her insights in an op-ed for TSN.ua about the true significance of the recent visit by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Kyiv.
According to the expert, it seems that even after Russia’s full-scale invasion, President Biden and some members of his Administration continue to regard corruption, rather than Russia, as the greatest threat to Ukraine.
“It is important to remember that the parameters of support for Ukraine are set by the U.S. President. Not Jake Sullivan, not Anthony Blinken, nor William Burns. They are simply tasked with effectively executing the president’s directives without challenging them. Therefore, we must work on expanding these parameters rather than just fulfilling them”, Alyona Getmanchuk concludes.
