20 March 2026, 13:54

On March 20, 2026, in Seoul the New Europe Center successfully held a panel discussion “Four Years of Russia’s War Against Ukraine: Global Instability and Implications for the Korean Peninsula.” The event brought together over 60 participants. It was co-organized by the Embassy of Ukraine, the EU Delegation, the Embassy of Germany in the Republic of Korea, and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

Speakers included:

  • Nataliya Butyrska, Associate Senior Fellow, New Europe Center;

  • Mykhailo Samus, Director, New Geopolitics Research Network;

  • Dr. Go Myong-Hyun, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS);

  • Frederic Spor, Head of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Offices in Korea and Taiwan.

The discussion was moderated by Krystyna Zeleniuk, Associate Analyst at the New Europe Center.

During this important Ukraine-focused event in Seoul, experts and participants addressed the following key questions:

  • How has Russia’s war against Ukraine reshaped the global security landscape?

  • What lessons can the Republic of Korea draw from this war?

  • How does the latest escalation in the Middle East highlight Ukraine’s drone capabilities?

  • Is it true that Russia could end the war at Beijing’s request?

Nataliya Butyrska also emphasized that North Korea is a key supplier of artillery shells, missiles, and other weapons to Russia, while its military personnel are involved in combat operations alongside Moscow. China, she noted, provides comprehensive economic, financial, and diplomatic support to Russia, has become one of the leading actors in sanctions circumvention, and remains a major supplier of dual-use goods.

The New Europe Center’s advocacy visit to Seoul (Republic of Korea) is supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.
