On June, 8 Marianna Fakhurdinova, Research Fellow at the New Europe Center, and Yuliya Shaipova, Head of Eurointegration projects at the Center for Economic Recovery conducted the workshop on “Ukraine’s path to EU membership: the role of CSOs”
“After the launch of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, the field for involving civil society organizations (CSOs) in the processes of European integration will significantly expand: Ukrainian authorities will need independent expertise and supervision from CSOs regarding the unification of Ukrainian legislation with EU law in 35 different areas”
In her speech, Marianna Fakhurdinova focused on:
- work experience and the best New Europe Center projects in the field of European integration, including: “Euromap of Ukraine”, “Forum of Associations”, “Candidate Check”, etc;
- new formats and work areas that New Europe Center develops more actively after the start of the full-scale invasion (advocacy and educational visits, short infographic materials, opinion polls of citizens of Ukraine and EU member states).
Representatives of about 20 think tanks and NGOs from all over Ukraine took part in the event.
During the workshop, the speakers dwelled on the following issues:
- A brief overview of the history of Ukraine and the EU relations;
- Ukrainian think tanks’ experience in the field of European integration in 2014-2021: best practices and projects;
- The work of Ukrainian think tanks in the field of European integration after February 24, 2022: filling out the European Commission questionnaire, advocacy for granting Ukraine candidate status, monitoring the implementation of 7 recommendations, etc;
- What’s next after the candidacy: stages of acquiring EU membership;
- Opportunities for the involvement of civil society organizations in the processes of European integration after the launch of membership negotiations between Ukraine and the EU: monitoring the implementation of the acquis communautaire
