New Europe team took part in Forum 2000

On October 14 and 15 Forum 2000 was held in Prague. The New Europe Center (NEC) team of the was invited to speak at the conference sessions.

Director of NEC Alyona Getmanchuk took part in one of the panel discussions. Together with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavski, EED President Jerzy Pomianowski, Heritage Foundation President Advisor John Carafano, moderated by MEP Alexander Vondra, they discussed the future of transatlantic relations after the US elections. “In particular, I tried to clearly convey why European security cannot be held hostage to 10,000 votes in Pennsylvania. I also voiced a list of issues that we plan to solve before a new president will be in the Oval Office, in particular, permission for deep strikes and an invitation to NATO”, Alyona Getmanchuk said .

Leo Litra, Senior Reaserch Fellow at the New Europe Center, spoke at a panel discussion that was supposed to once again explain why the stakes in the war against Ukraine are super high (together with Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze, representative of the European External Action Service Petra Gombulova Kislingerova, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Anna Fotiga and for moderation by Romina Bandura of CSIS). In particular, he described in detail why it is important to create a Coalition of resolute for a faster end to the war by achieving a just and sustainable peace, rather than a fragile false truce.

An active work took place also outside Forum 2000. In particular, the experts had a thorough and detailed meeting on security guarantees for Ukraine and an invitation to NATO in the Office of the President of the Czech Republic with diplomatic adviser to Petr Pavel Yaroslav Zaichek and his team. The “Security Matrix of Ukraine” and “Potential formats and requirements of invitating Ukraine to NATO” were presented.

Also, during the advocacy visit to Prague, Alyona Getmanchuk gave an exclusive interview to one of the most readable Czech media iDNEZ.cz. The expert spoke about security guarantees and Ukraine’s invitation to NATO and explained why such an invitation, even during the active phase of the war, can be quite realistic. “Ukraine’s path to the end of the war should be through real security guarantees, no matter how winding it might be”, Director of the NEC said.
