Alyona Getmanchuk, Director of New Europe and Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, spoke at the thematic discussion panel “U.S. Elections and Challenges for Ukraine.” This event was part of the joint project “New Country” by LB.ua and EFI Group.
According to Alyona Getmanchuk, unlike in 2016, today Trump’s election no longer causes shock. It should be seen not as a threat but as an opportunity—one to leverage previously established contacts to strengthen cooperation.
“In the context of Trump, we need to think not only about what our ‘shopping list’ of demands and wishes should be but also about what our offer will be. The experience of those years may come in handy here,” said Alyona Getmanchuk.
How should the results of the U.S. presidential election and Donald Trump’s victory be assessed? What does it change for Ukraine? How might it affect critical aid? Will it contribute to our victory, and if so, how? Experts and guests at the thematic discussion panel sought answers to these and other questions.
We are grateful to the organizers for the invitation to participate.
