German-Ukrainian Breakfast Debates

German-Ukrainian Breakfast Debate is a unique format of expert meetings that take place in Berlin and Kyiv. It aims at strengthening Ukrainian think tanks and civil society organizations and deepening their cooperation with local authorities to provide all necessary tools to effectively support recovery and European integration processes. This is a continuation of “German Breakfasts” series which has been organized in Kyiv since 2020 and “Ukrainian Breakfasts” series which has been organized in Berlin since 2017.

Following this tradition, the first debates were held in Berlin and Kyiv in close cooperation between the New Europe Center and the Institute for European Policy – Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP). The details of the Breakfasts can be found here:

The event is part of the “UA Transformation Lab”, a joined project by the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP), New Europe Center (NEC), Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation (DIF) and Cedos. It is kindly supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.

German-Ukrainian Breakfast Debates in Kyiv are held under the patronage of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Martin Jäger.

Germany Breakfast Debates (2020-2022)

The predecessors of current events are “German Breakfast Debates” that were similarly deep and effective. It was a series of 10 debates in Kyiv to discuss the views of German experts and decision-makers on events in Ukraine and Germany, and to establish a professional dialogue between experts from both countries. This format was a continuation of “Ukrainian Breakfast Debates”, which has been organized by the Institute for European Politics in Berlin since 2017.
